March trade deficit $43.7B, down from Feb.’s $43.8B

WASHINGTON – The U.S. international trade gap narrowed in March to $43.7 billion, smaller than the $44.4 billion gap expected and following a slightly wider $43.7 billion gap in February, data released by the Commerce Department Thursday morning showed.

The revised Census goods gap reported Thursday was modestly narrower than the advance estimate of $64.8 billion used in advance 1Q GDP, coming in at $64.2 billion. This was slightly wider than the $64.1 billion Census gap in February. The overall BOP goods gap widened to $65.5 billion from $65.2 billion in February.

The petroleum gap widened to $7.9 billion in March from $7.4 billion in February, while the nonpetroleum gap narrowed to $56.3 billion from $56.7 billion.

In addition, the services surplus widened to $21.8 billion from $21.4 billion.
