WASHINGTON — Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board has promoted its deputy general counsel Lawrence Sandor to the newly created position of chief compliance officer.

The MSRB announced the promotion on Thursday, saying Sandor will be responsible for managing the MSRB's corporate governance, regulatory support, as well as internal legal and compliance activities.

The action follows the MSRB's  promotion of Michael Post to the post of general counsel for regulatory affairs and hiring of Robert Fippinger, a former board member and lawyer at Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe, as chief legal office. Both Sandor and Post will report to Fippinger, the board said.

Sandor, who joined the MSRB in December 2008, has also served as the board's associate and senior associate general counsel.

"Larry's new, expanded role will more fully utilize his deep experience on compliance matters and support the continued maturation of the organization," said MSRB executive director Lynnette Kelly. "In his six years at the MSRB, Larry has become the key point person on a number of important initiatives. Our market regulation team will continue to benefit from his knowledge and leadership.

Before joining the MSRB, Sandor served as chief compliance officer of Wachovia Securities and Wachovia Securities Financial Network, as well as general counsel of a regional broker-dealer. He was also counsel at the law firm of Dickstein, Shapiro, Morin & Oshinsky LLP, and an associate attorney at McGuire Woods LLP in Washington, D.C. He graduated from Boston University School of Management and Emory University School of Law.
