K.C. OKs Hotel Site Funds

The Kansas City Council late last week authorized $250,000 in convention and tourism funds to preserve the city’s option to purchase its preferred site for a new convention center hotel downtown.

The council also recently approved a resolution calling for more financial information about the project. The resolution allows the city to conduct a request for proposals to search for developers and operators for the roughly $300 million, 1,000-room hotel under consideration.

Mayor Mark Funkhouser is opposed to the hotel over concerns that it will not generate enough revenue to repay debt issued to fund construction.
