The owner of Atlantic City's shuttered Revel Casino Hotel is planning a new ropes course in the 47-story resort.

Ropes Courses Inc. signed a contract with Glenn Straub of Florida-based Polo North, which recently acquired the Revel building, for a massive ropes course as part of plans to rejuvenate the former hotel casino that closed in September 2014. The company said in a statement Thursday that the ropes course in a former valet car space is aimed at creating a family-oriented attraction that will boost visitors. Revel was one of four Atlantic City casinos to close in 2014 and the Jersey Shore gambling hub is now in danger of defaulting on its debt with little cash flow remaining.

"The combination of the two courses at Revel will appeal to a multitude of age ranges to generate new and repeat business from locals and tourists alike," the company said in its statement.

A call to Polo North about Straub's plans for the Revel was not immediately returned.

Atlantic City's casino industry lost 6.5% in revenue last year compared to 2014, according to New Jersey's Division of Gaming Enforcement. Atlantic City Mayor Donald Guardian has sought to diversify the Jersey Shore community's attractions beyond casinos since being elected in November 2013.
