The Illinois State Toll Highway Authority last week announced the creation of a transition team to advise the agency on its future direction.
“I am confident that the first step to accomplish this charge is to bring together leaders with expertise from all walks of life, business and industry to examine the current tollway policies and operations, and assess our opportunities and challenges,” the executive director Kristi Lafleur said in a statement.
The team will begin work next month on a transition report framing a direction for the agency, exploring how it can contribute most effectively to economic growth, foster environmental responsibility, increase coordination with regional agencies, and improve accountability, transparency, and customer service.
The group includes representatives of transportation advocacy groups, tourism, business organizations, cultural centers, environmental groups and labor. The tollway is wrapping up a bond-financed $6.3 billion overhaul and expansion and has additional needs, but it has tapped its borrowing capacity at current toll rates.
