CHICAGO — Chicago-based Wintrust Wealth Management has hired veteran municipal professional Tom Greene to lead its institutional municipal bond desk.

Greene is leaving retirement to join the firm. He retired last December from William Blair & Co. after four decades. He started as a trader in 1973 and was named head of municipal trading, underwriting, and sales in 1984. He began his career as a trader in 1971 at A.S. Hart.

Greene has long served as the president of the Municipal Bond Club of Chicago and has led the Chicago Bond School of Chicago since 1997. Bond School serves as an introduction to the basics of municipal finance for many professionals new to financial services firms.

"Tom's status in the Chicago municipal bond community is unique. He is unquestionably renowned and respected for fostering and mentoring young professionals through the Bond School and his acumen as a trader is unsurpassed," said Tom Kiernan, manager of fixed income trading. "I can't think of a better person to bring us into the institutional space."

Wintrust Wealth Management is a subsidiary of Rosemont, Ill-based Wintrust Financial Corp. which manages $18 billion in assets. Wintrust Wealth Management provides financial services to private clients and institutions through three subsidiaries: investment products are provided through Wayne Hummer Investments group, asset management through its Great Lakes Advisors, and trust/estate services through the Chicago Trust Company.
