NEW YORK – Weekly chain store sales fell 1.4% in the week ending September 18, according to the ICSC-Goldman Sachs Weekly Chain Store Sales Snapshot released Tuesday.
Sales in September have been volatile, swinging back and forth from positive to negative, according to the report.
Year-over-year retail sales improved 3.3%.
"Sales over the last week were mixed with some retailers being helped by the weather, while others were not, making the overall results for the week very uneven," said Michael Niemira, ICSC director of research and chief economist. "Despite this weeks decline, sales for September remain are on track for an industry-wide increase of about.3.0 percent overall," Niemira added.
