UBS Wealth Management hired Angelia Schmidt, a veteran of 19 years at JPMorgan Securities, as the newest addition to its growing public finance business.

Schmidt will be head of public finance underwriting at UBS. She is the first hire by Peter Hill, who left Wells Fargo in April to build up UBS’ public finance practice. She will report directly to Hill, head of the public finance team.

“The depth of her experience in originating deals and developing relationships with issuer clients, along with her considerable leadership skills will make her a valuable member of our team,” Hill said in an internal memo Wednesday. “Market conditions and secular trends make this industry very attractive for our clients. As such, we are focused on bringing together the best in our business to add to our accomplished team.”

Schmidt most recently served as managing director of JPMorgan's public finance syndicate, responsible for the execution of new issue tax exempt and taxable bond deals across the public finance space for some of the largest and most sophisticated issuers in the market.

A spokeswomen from UBS told The Bond Buyer that she will start in September.
