U. of Mich. Feb. Index at 75.1 vs. 74.2 in Jan.

NEW YORK - The University of Michigan's preliminary February consumer sentiment index reading was 75.1, compared to the final January 74.2 reading, the preliminary January 72.7 and the December 74.5 reading, according to market sources.

Economists polled by Thomson Reuters had predicted a 75.0 reading for the index.

The expectations index was 67.6, compared to 69.3 in January, 68.2 earlier in January and 67.5 in December.

The current conditions index was 86.8, compared to 81.8 in January, 79.8 earlier in January and 85.3 in December.

The five-year inflation expectation index was 2.9%, compared to 2.9% in January and 2.8% in December, while the one-year inflation expectation index was 3.4%, compared to3.4% in January and 3.0% in December.

The University of Michigan index is not released to the press, but only to paying subscribers.
