CHICAGO --Kutak Rock LLP has elevated Chicago-based public finance attorney Lance Tyson to partner.
Tyson was among 13 given partnership status at the firm this year. Tyson's practice covers public finance law, real estate, and government affairs.
"Lance has consistently demonstrated the legal skills, partner-level judgment and leadership exemplified by Kutak Rock partners," Mike Curry, a member of the firm's executive committee, said in a recent statement. "As a lawyer, Lance has provided sophisticated, valued legal counsel to clients. As a colleague, he has demonstrated collaborative and business-minded qualities that have earned widespread recognition within the firm."
Tyson returned the firm in 2013 after a 10-year absence during which he operated his own law firm and served as chief of staff to the former Cook County, Ill. board president.
Tyson initially rejoined the firm in an "of counsel" role. For Tyson, it was a homecoming as he worked at Kutak Rock a decade earlier and then went on to work on the issuer side and co-founded his own firm.
Tyson shuttered his first firm Tyson Strong Hill LLC in 2006 to become chief of staff to then Cook County, Ill. Board president Todd Stroger. He left the county in 2008 to join Freeborn & Peters LLP but in 2009 re-launched his firm with one of the same partners and an additional partner. The latter version of the minority owned firm was known as the Tyson Law Group. Tyson's government ties ran deep as he also previously worked as a legislative counsel to former Chicago Mayor Richard Daley.
Kutak Rock ranked 6th among bond counsel in the Midwest last year working on deals valued at $1.7 billion, according to data from Thomson Reuters.
