The Treasury estimated its fourth quarter borrowing needs at $232 billion, assuming a $200 billion cash balance at quarter's end.

The estimate is up from the previous estimate of $187 billion of borrowing, with a $140 billion cash balance.
In the third quarter, Treasury borrowed $205 billion, ending with a cash balance of $158 billion. Treasury estimated $192 billion in borrowing and a $150 billion cash balance.
Treasury said it expects to borrow $209 billion in the first quarter of 2015, with an end-of-quarter cash balance of $100 billion.
Details of the quarterly refunding will be released Wednesday.
