Tom Weyl joins Morgan Stanley’s muni capital solutions group

Morgan Stanley has hired veteran muni market practitioner Tom Weyl as an executive director of credit analysis within the municipal capital solutions group.

“We are excited to have Tom on board and are looking forward to the continued expansion of our credit expertise across the Morgan Stanley Municipal franchise,” said Alexander Chilton, head of municipal capital solutions group.

Weyl spent the past year at Wasmer, Schroeder & Co. as a director of muni research. Prior to that, he was the head of new business at bond insurer National Public Finance Guarantee Corp., the muni-only arm of MBIA. He held that spot for over two years, until S&P Global Ratings downgraded the insurer, causing NPFG to cease all new business activity back in June of 2017.

“It was a hard choice, I was in a great spot at WSC and I enjoyed my time there but I got another opportunity I couldn’t pass up,” said Weyl.
