School’s $488M Facility Plan

The East Baton Rouge Parish School Board has approved a 10-year, $488 million facility plan that includes a full rebuilding of two high schools, renovations and additions to 12 schools, and extensive work on 25 others.

Voters will go to the polls on March 8 to decide on extending a 1% sales tax for 10 years to provide up to $424 million for the effort, either via bonds or pay-as-you-go financing. The remaining $64 million will be provided from the district’s general fund.

The school sales tax was first approved by parish voters in 1998. The district had considered a five-year extension and a proposal to extend the tax indefinitely before opting for the 10-year extension.
