Reinvesting Federal Taxes

U.S. Rep. Hansen Clarke last week offered a bill that would require all federal taxes paid in Detroit to be reinvested back into the city for the next five years.

The bill, called the Detroit Jobs Trust Fund, was referred to the House Committees on Ways and Means, Oversight and Government Reform for review.

“It’s not going to cost other taxpayers anything at all,” Clarke told the website Mlive.com last week. “It’s a targeted investment right here in the city.”

The trust fund would be administered by the U.S. Treasury, with Detroit City Council approval required for spending.
