NGA Picks Schwartz to be Deputy Director of its Center for Best Practices

Elliot Schwartz has been chosen as Deputy Director of the National Governors Association’s Center for Best Practices starting Nov. 18.

“NGA is excited to welcome Elliot,” NGA Executive Director Dan Crippen said in a press release. “His expertise on issues that directly affect states will be an asset to our team. Elliot will continue the tradition of the NGA Center by offering our nation’s governors the most innovative ideas in state governance.”

Most recently, Schwartz served as vice president and director of economic studies at the Committee for Economic Development. Previously, he was director of research at the Council of Institutional Investors. He has also worked at the Congressional Budget Office and the Office of Management and Budget.

Schwartz has a master’s degree in political economics from American University and a bachelor’s degree in economics with a specialty in government regulation of business activity from the University of Illinois. He also has completed doctoral work and comprehensive examinations in political economics.

The center, http://nga.org/cms/center, provides the nation’s governors and their key policy staff technical assistance for challenges facing their states. It identifies andsharesbest practices from across the country and hosts meetings of leading policymakers, program officials and scholars.
