WASHINGTON — Maryland Treasurer Nancy Kopp has been appointed to the board of trustees of the Financial Accounting Foundation, FAF announced Tuesday.

The foundation is an independent, private sector organization that is responsible for overseeing the Financial Accounting Standards Board and the Governmental Accounting Standards Board.

Kopp’s appointment is effective Jan. 1.

“As someone who has devoted her distinguished career to finance and budget issues, Nancy Kopp brings to the board of trustees extensive experience in public finance and accounting,” FAF chairman Jeffrey J. Diermeier said in a news release.

Kopp has been Maryland’s treasurer since 2002 and is the second woman to serve in the job. Before serving as treasurer, she was a member of the Maryland House of Delegates for 27 years.

Kopp is the chairwoman of the National Association of State Treasurers’ legislative committee and has served as president of the National Association of State Auditors, Comptrollers and Treasurers.
