Ibrahim joins 280 Securities in municipal underwriting department

Municipal finance veteran banker Debbie Ibrahim has joined 280 Securities in New York, broker-dealer 280 CapMarkets announced. Ibrahim will be responsible for expanding the company's new issue underwriting business.

She will be in charge of increasing 280 Securities' participation in new issues offered for competitive sale and will also assist the trading desk with negotiated pricings, the firm said.

Ibrahim’s career in municipal finance spans three decades, including work at HJ Sims, Lebenthal, and Bank of America.

"We're excited to have Debbie join our team," Jason Ware, 280’s head of trading, said last month. "280 is taking a greater role in new issue underwriting. Debbie will sharpen our focus on competitive issues and assist us in the growth of our public finance business."

Since opening in 2017, 280 Securities has expanded its underwriting capacity across the United States.

The firm launched Bond Nav, a cloud-based technology platform in January, geared at helping independent financial advisors meet best-execution requirements by providing them with greater transparency in bond pricing.

"Working with our technology platform, BondNav, we're learning independent investment advisors have an especially keen appetite for new issues," said Josh Rasmussen, head of advisor solutions. "We are thrilled to welcome Debbie and to have her assistance in filling this growing demand."

280 CapMarkets launched with the idea of combining cloud-based technology with the market expertise and execution services of a traditional broker-dealer to enable independent financial advisors to buy, sell, and manage bonds with greater ease, transparency, and confidence, according to the firm.

Since 2017, the broker-dealer has executed more than $4 billion in fixed income sales of which more than 95% are munis, CEO Gurinder Ahluwalia told The Bond Buyer in July, when the firm hired four people to expand its offerings into taxables.

Headquartered in San Francisco, 280 CapMarkets has offices in New York, Seattle, and Los Angeles County. Securities are offered through 280 Securities, a member of FINRA/SIPC.
