GOP Takes House, Misses on Senate Majority

NEW YORK – Republicans have taken control of the House of Representatives while the Democrats seem to have retained a majority in the Senate.

With 13 seats still undecided, the GOP gained 60 seats in the House for 239, while gaining six Senate seats, which gives them 46, with only three undecided.

Tea party candidates winning included Rand Paul in Kentucky, Mike Lee in Utah and Marco Rubio in Florida. However, Christine O'Donnell was trounced in Delaware, and Majority Leader Harry Reid fought off challenger Sharron Angle.

Republicans wrested 10 governorships from the Democrats, including Ohio and Pennsylvania, while dropping governor posts in California and Hawaii.

Incumbents defeated in the House included two committee chairmen, Ike Skelton in Missouri and John Spratt in South Carolina, as well as Paul Kanjorski of Pennsylvania.

Democratic Sens. Russell Feingold in Wisconsin and Blanche Lincoln in Arkansas lost. Former Rep. Pat Toomey was elected to the Senate from Pennsylvania, North Dakota Gov. John Hoeven won a Senate seat, and former Sen. Dan Coats won in Indiana.

House Transportation Chair Jim Oberstar, D-Minn., was defeated by Republican Chip Cravaack.
