Detroit City Council Okays Bing's Budget

The Detroit City Council last week approved Mayor Dave Bing’s $1.1 billion general fund 2014 budget.

Emergency Manager Kevyn Orr still needs to sign off on the spending plan.

The council amended Bing’s budget to save an additional $6 million. Among the changes are deep cuts to the city council’s department as well as the mayor’s office and an earlier start date to health care cuts.

Council members complained that the budget does not address a $380 million deficit projected for the end of next month.
