WASHINGTON — The Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board announced on Monday that its EMMA system now includes an economic calendar that gives visitors free access to dates and descriptions of upcoming macroeconomic developments that could affect the municipal market.

"EMMA's new economic calendar is a great resource for all market participants interested in assessing market-related events," said MSRB executive director Lynnette Kelly. "From an issuer's perspective, it could be the most informative tool we have added to EMMA in recent years."

The calendar for 2016 includes upcoming federal data releases, labor and housing statistics, and other economic indicators that can assist municipal market participants in monitoring real-time data releases, according to the MSRB. It is also the first resource provided on the EMMA website that helps investors understand broader market activities that could affect the muni market.

Users can find U.S. and international recaps of economic events, as well as definitions of each of the events listed, under tabs located near the top of the calendar. The calendar can also be adjusted based on time zone.

Other free tools currently on the EMMA site include the price discovery tool, which enables users to identify and compare bonds that share key characteristics, and email alerts that help investors stay up to date when new information is available about individual securities or groups of securities.

The MSRB is considering including a new issue calendar on EMMA.

EMMA is the official source of data and documents for the municipal market and contains information on more than 1 million outstanding municipal securities. It displays real-time trade price and yield data for every municipal bond, according to the MSRB.
