NEW ORLEANS – Larry Kidwell, president of Brentwood, Tenn.-based Kidwell and Company, has been elected president of the National Association of Municipal Advisors.

The group elected Kidwell to the position during its annual business meeting held during its conference here.

He will serve a one-year term and will replace Terri Heaton of Minnesota-based Springsted Inc. as president. Kidwell's one-year term is a change from the two-year terms that several recent past NAMA presidents, including Heaton, served.

"I am excited to have the opportunity to lead NAMA at this monumental time for the association and the profession," Kidwell said. "NAMA is focused on helping MAs achieve excellence in serving their clients and the public trust, and promoting the highest standards for the MA industry."

The group also elected Mike Sudsina, president of Sudsina and Associates in Vermillion, Ohio, as NAMA's vice president.

In addition to electing new officers, the municipal advisor group adopted revised by-laws. It plans to release an updated code of ethics in the future to reflect the current regulatory regime and "ensure that NAMA members strive to exceed those standards," said NAMA executive director Susan Gaffney.

NAMA is a professional organization limited to firms and professions that specialize in providing advice on bond sales and other financial products used by state and local governments, agencies, and obligated persons. It works to promote and provide educational efforts to help its members navigate federal regulations and the municipal market while maintaining communication with regulators and other market participants.
