BDA Promotes Giroux Again

WASHINGTON — Jessica Giroux has been promoted to general counsel of the Bond Dealers of America, assuming the number two position in the middle-market dealer group.

Giroux, who joined the BDA in July 2011, had been senior counsel and manager for federal regulatory policy. She will maintain her manager title along with her new general counsel designation. Giroux told The Bond Buyer that the BDA board decided at its meeting in Dallas, Tex. last week to reshuffle some staff responsibilities to reflect recent hirings.

"We're more clearly defining the roles of everyone on staff," Giroux said.

BDA announced in September that Giroux had been promoted to senior counsel and that the staff had added John Vahey as director of federal policy, and Samantha DeZur as vice president of federal policy and strategic communications.

Giroux said the backgrounds of the new staff would allow her to be more hands off on the BDA's communications initiatives and focus more on facilitating BDA events and lobbying efforts.

"We've already started trying to meet with regulators more often," she said.

Before joining BDA, Giroux was chief of staff and counsel to then-New York State Sen. James Alesi, a Republican, and worked in New York City's D.C. offices while Michael Bloomberg was mayor.
