Artifacts for Auction

The Harrisburg Authority public-works agency has authorized chairman Marc Kurowski and interim executive director Shannon Williams to explore selling authority-owned historical artifacts through the same auction house that is selling similar items the city of Harrisburg, Pa., owns, the Patriot-News reported.

“We’re just investigating piggybacking onto the city’s contract” with Guernsey’s, the New York auction house the city selected to market and sell city-owned Wild West artifacts, the newspaper quoted board member William Cluck as saying.

According to the Patriot-News, much of the inventory that former Mayor Stephen Reed ordered for a Wild West museum that never materialized is sitting in a warehouse near the Harrisburg incinerator.

That incinerator, which the Harrisburg Authority owns, is the focal point of the city’s $310 million in bond debt, which has landed Pennsylvania’s capital in state receivership.
