Women in Public Finance names Founders' Award recipients

Women in Public Finance will honor Karen Daly, Emily Brock, and Lori Schreckengost with its Founders’ Awards in October.

Daly, a senior managing director at Kroll Bond Rating Agency, will receive the lifetime achievement award that honors a woman involved in the field for more than 10 years who has consistently demonstrated skill, drive, integrity, and vision.

Karen Daley of Kroll Bond Rating Agency

“Karen Daly has dedicated over 30 years to reaching the top of her field, and her passion and enthusiasm for her subject of expertise make it clear that it has been a labor of love,” her nominating statement says. “Karen has worked in multiple roles in the industry giving her a broader view than just about any other rating agency in the business. Additional, her ability to engage with industry leaders and senior elected officials is matched by her ability to connect with public finance novices, meaning her influence and extensive knowledge base are multiplied by a career spent training others.”

Daly held previous positions at Municipal Infrastructure Funding LLC, Financial Guaranty Insurance Co., and began her career as an analyst at Moody’s Investors Service.

Brock, director of federal liaison center for the Government Finance Officers Association, will receive the “She’s Our Hero Award” that recognizes a woman for her management of career, self-development, family, and civil involvement.

"Emily is a leader in the public finance field, advocating for public finance and state and local government everyday on Capitol Hill. She shares her knowledge through various conferences, including local chapters of Women in Public Finance. As a staff liaison for the Women in Public Finance Network of GFOA, she has challenged the group to become more active and tackle concerns and issues that women working in the public finance field face," read her nominating statement.

Schreckengost, a vice president in Citi’s airport finance group in Chicago, will receive the “Rising Star Award” that recognizes a woman involved in the field for 10 years or less whose work demonstrates skill and intelligence that will have a long-term impact in the field. She began her career in the Midwest Finance Group at Citi and after seven years serving general government clients throughout the region, expanded into the airport finance group last year. In her current role, she provides investment banking services to airports and airlines across the country.

The organization will present the awards at a reception on Oct. 4 in Boston in connection with its 22nd annual conference. The awards reception is at The Grand Boston and the conference is at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center.

The group's founders – financial advisor Courtney Shea, former Chicago CFO and financial advisor Lois Scott, retired Standard & Poor's senior managing director Sarah Eubanks, and consultant Nancy Remar - launched the awards more than a decade ago.

The aim is to recognize women with a range of experience for their contributions to the field. The founders, along with past recipients of the awards, review new and past nominations to make their annual selections.

WPF originated in Chicago but has since evolved into a national organization with chapters in Boston, Chicago, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kansas/Missouri, Los Angeles, Louisiana, Minnesota, the Mountain Region, Northern California, Ohio, Pacific Northwest, San Diego, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia.

The group’s mission is “to support and advance the careers of women in public finance by fostering relationships and networking, and providing educational and learning activities and forums.”
