The federal government ran a $74.9 billion deficit in June, the Treasury Department reported Thursday.

Outlays in June totaled $391.136 billion. Receipts totaled $316.278 billion.

Economists polled by IFR Markets predicted a $98.2 billion deficit.

In June 2017, the government ran a $90.2 billion deficit.

In May, the government ran a $146.8 billion deficit.

For the fiscal year to date, the government has a $607.1 billion deficit, compared to a $523.1 billion deficit for the similar period in fiscal 2017.
