Tucson Bus Boards

Tucson Unified School District may allow businesses to advertise products and services on the district’s school buses as a way to generate money for schools.

Ads on school buses could raise $120,000 of annual revenue for the district. TUSD’s 320 buses travel a combined 4.7 million miles annually.

The TUSD Governing Board will see a presentation on the options in January or February, district transportation director Bill Ball said.

If the board decides to put ads on the buses, the district will have to figure out what kind of ads are acceptable. Products such as tobacco and alcohol would be out of the question, officials said.

TUSD would not be the first Arizona district to turn its buses into moving billboards.

Paradise Valley Unified School District has been accepting advertising on its buses for seven years, and receives about $50,000 a year from advertisers. The Scottsdale Unified School District recently allowed commercial advertisements on its school buses.
