Treasury Strips Slip $1.347B in January

Newly issued Treasury securities held in stripped form decreased about $1.347 billion in January to a total of $212.011 billion, the Bureau of the Public Debt reported Thursday.

Through the Separate Trading of Registered Interest and Principal of Securities program, STRIPS, about $18.199 billion of Treasury securities were reconstituted in January, up about $4.123 billion from $14.076 billion in December.

Securities eligible for stripping totaled $10.815 trillion in January off about $68 billion from $10.883 trillion in December.

Some $10.603 trillion were held in unstripped form.

The STRIPS program allows investors to hold and trade the individual interest and principal components of eligible Treasury notes and bonds as separate securities.
