Texas Sales Taxes Come on Strong

June’s Texas sales tax revenues totaled $1.98 billion, up 15.2% from June 2011, Comptroller Susan Combs said last week.

It was the 27th consecutive month of increased revenues from state and local sales taxes, she said.

Sales tax allocations to local governments totaled $534.6 million, up almost 13% from the June 2011 distribution.

Cities will receive a total of $350.3 million from the June collections. Transit districts will share $121.6 million, with $35.6 million going to counties with a sales tax and $27.1 million to special taxing districts.

Houston will receive $46.6 million from the June distribution. The June payment will bring its sales tax revenues in the first half of 2012 to $322.7 million, up from $288.3 million in the first six months of 2011.

June sales tax allocations include $18.9 million to San Antonio and $17.8 million to Dallas.
