Study to Weigh Milwaukee Convention Center Expansion

CHICAGO –The Wisconsin Center District Board has decided to undertake a study on whether it makes financial sense to expand Milwaukee’s downtown convention center.

The board recently approved the study with the roughly $60,000 cost to be shared with the city’s convention and visitors bureau. HVS Convention, Sports & Entertainment will conduct the analysis.

The study will look at the benefits and cost of a potential expansion, how much additional space might be needed, and financing alternatives.

Proponents of an expansion believe it is needed to keep pace with other comparable convention centers and could help attract larger conventions and trade shows.

A Cultural and Entertainment Capital Needs Task Force is being formed separately by the Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce to review the needs of the city’s landscape of cultural attractions.
