The St. Paul, Minn., City Council advanced plans to provide a $17 million subsidy for a new St. Paul Saints ballpark.
The team would contribute $10 million. The city would issue debt to cover its costs.
St. Paul is also is banking on matching funds from Minnesota to cover the remaining cost of the $54 million project to replace the minor league team's aging current stadium.
Gov. Mark Dayton had included a subsidy in his version of the state' 2012 capital budget, but it did not pass in the final version of the approved bonding bill.
