WASHINGTON – Business inventories increased 0.9% in September as sales increased 0.5%, the Commerce Department reported Monday.
Economists expected business inventories would increase 0.8% for the month, according to the median estimate from Thomson Reuters.
Retail inventories increased 0.8% in September following a 1.1% gain in August.
The inventories-to-sales ratio held steady at 1.27, the same as it was in August. The ratio was 1.30 in September 2009.
