Sarasota, Fla., Finance Director Retiring

The long-time finance director for Sarasota, Fla., will retire in about two months.

Chris Lyons said he will step down for health reasons after assisting his successor with the transition process

Lyons has been finance director for five years. Prior to that, he was the acting finance director, deputy finance director, budget director, and accounts-payroll manager. He helped Sarasota, on Florida’s west coast south of Tampa, prepare 23 budgets.

He is a Florida-certified government finance officer and a certified public finance officer by the Government Finance Officers Association.

This past summer he concluded a one-year term as president of Florida Government Finance Officers Association. He was president of Southwest Florida Government Finance Officers Association in 2004-2005.

“Over the years, I’ve enjoyed working with many city commissioners, several city managers, numerous employees and countless passionate citizens,” Lyons said in a statement. “I have learned many things from working with this diverse group.”

Sarasota will launch a national search for a new finance director.
