Texas sales tax collections in July totaled $1.7 billion, up 2.2% from July 2009, with increases posted by the retail, construction, and oil and gas sectors.

"Total monthly sales tax revenue has now exceeded year-ago levels for the last four months," said state Comptroller Susan Combs. "We are monitoring these sectors to see if collections are returning to consistent growth."
