Retail sales gained 1.8% in the week ended April 20, after a 2.0% rise the prior week, according to the weekly retail sales report released by Johnson Redbook Tuesday.

Month-to-date, April was up 1.9% compared to April of last year (relative to a target of a 2.6% gain).

Month-over-month showed a 2.8% drop (relative to a target of a 2.1% drop).
