Retail Sales Fall 0.1%; Ex-Autos Decline 0.6%

U.S. July retail sales posted a 0.1% decrease to $342.309 billion, on a seasonally adjusted basis, while excluding automobiles, retail sales fell 0.6% to $283.614 billion, the Commerce Department reported yesterday.

In June, retail sales rose a revised 0.8% to $342.497 billion, while excluding autos, sales climbed an upwardly revised 0.5% to $285.205 billion in the month. June retail sales were originally reported up 0.6%, while ex-auto sales were originally reported up 0.3%.

Thomson Reuters had predicted sales would advance 0.7% and post a 0.1% gain excluding autos.
