Omid Rahmani

Title: Associate Director
Firm: Fitch Ratings
Age: 31

Omid Rahmani has emerged as a leading voice on cyber security and its impact on municipal credit.

He is a member of Fitch’s cross-practice cyber risk group. He has written several pieces on cyber risk issues and is a popular speaker at conferences.

His commentary has covered cyber hygiene, the effects of ransomware attacks, and cyberterrorism.

At Fitch, Omid is primarily responsible for a portfolio of Southwest region local government credits.

In the last decade Omid was involved in cyber security issues as a paid intern for Cynthia Lummis, then Republican Representative for Wyoming. After that, he worked as an analyst at S&P Global Ratings.

“I’m always impressed by Omid’s ability to raise awareness of emerging risks by creating meaningful conversations not only with our issuers but internally within our cross-sector analytical teams,” said Fitch Director Richard Packard.

“I have a strong interest in public policy and public service,” Omid said. “Public finance is unique in the various fields of finance in that you can track how the work affects various communities.”

He said the public finance community has been very positive about Fitch’s commentary on cyber-security issues. “Just because you run a small water authority in the middle of the country doesn’t mean you are immune. And this has been borne out.”

In his spare time Omid involves himself in archeological digs. He also volunteers at a local children’s hospital.
