Sales tax revenue in North Little Rock totaled $1.4 million in May, some $100,000 more than in May 2009 and 6.2% higher than expected.
The increase was the first time revenue from the city’s 1% sales tax was up from the previous year since September 2008. The 19-month decline was the longest for any city in Pulaski County.
City finance director Bob Sisson said sales tax revenue through May is 2.2%, or about $144,000, less than expected. City sales tax revenue was down 10% in 2009 from 2008 collections.
The $1.4 million from the sales tax in May is down from the $1.5 million collected in May 2008.
Revenue from sales taxes account for more than 20% of North Little Rock’s $53.5 million general fund budget for 2010.
The allocation from Arkansas represents the city’s share of the tax on sales from March.
