Keely Bosler will take the helm at the California Department of Finance.
California Gov. Jerry Brown announced Bosler's appointment Thursday. She will replace Michael Cohen, who has served in that role since 2013.

Cohen was recently named to the the University of California Board of Regents.
“Under Michael’s leadership, California’s finances are sound and we’re better prepared for the next downturn,” Brown said. “The Department won’t skip a beat with Keely at the helm.”
Bosler, 43, of Sacramento, has served as Cabinet Secretary in the Office of the Governor since 2016. She was chief deputy director for budget at the Department of Finance from 2013 to 2016.
Bosler was staff director for the California State Senate Budget and Fiscal Review Committee from 2010 to 2013, where she was a consultant from 2004 to 2009.
She was associate director for fiscal services at the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation’s Budget Management Branch from 2009 to 2010; and a fiscal and policy analyst at the California Legislative Analyst’s Office from 2000 to 2004.
She earned a master's degree in applied economics from Cornell University.
This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $209,943. Bosler is registered without party preference.
Prior to his appointment as Director of Finance by Governor Brown, Cohen served as chief deputy director for budget at the Department of Finance from 2011 to 2013.
He served in several positions at the California Legislative Analyst’s Office from 1997 to 2010, including deputy legislative analyst, director of state administration and local government finance analyst.
