Milwaukee Index Falls to 50 in Oct. From 58 in Sept.

NEW YORK – The seasonally adjusted Milwaukee Index decreased to 50 in October from an unrevised 58 in September, according to the Institute for Supply Management-Milwaukee.

New orders slid to 53 from 66, production dropped to 56 from 71, backlog held at 47, and supplier lead times fell to 43 from 45.

Blue collar employment decreased to 38 from 50, while white collar employment rose to 47 from 45. Inventory levels fell to 44 from 48, while capital equipment purchases declined to 50 from 55.

The prices paid index remained at 54, with nine categories rising in price and nine falling, while three were steady. By value, 11 are higher than 50, five are at 50, and five are less than 50.
