Visitation will take place at 10 a.m. Friday at Howard University Law School in the District, and a service will follow at 11 a.m., according to an obituary in the Washington Post. D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray will speak at the service, his office said.

Mack was 51 when he died. His body was found in a Maryland park on Sept. 20, and Prince George's County, Md. police have said they believe that he committed suicide.

He served as D.C. deputy chief financial officer and treasurer from the mid-2000s until 2012, and he started working in the CFO's office in the late 1980s. After he retired from the CFO's office, he started a non-profit organization called APPEAL, Inc.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lasana K. Mack Memorial Educational and Professional Training Fund; P.O. Box 6051; Largo, MD 20792-6051, the obituary said.
