Marshall Wins Second Treasurer Term

Nevada Treasurer Kate Marshall will serve a second term.

The Democratic incumbent won re-election by a 4.5% margin over Steve Martin, a Las Vegas certified public accountant. Despite the crushing blows the recession has delivered to Nevada, general election voters in the Silver State did not appear in a mood for change, though GOP voters dumped incumbent governor Jim Gibbons in the primary. The statehouse will stay in Republican hands after former federal judge Brian Sandoval cruised to election as governor over Democrat Rory Reid.

Incumbents won all six other statewide races, including supposedly embattled U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, who solidly defeated Republican and Tea Party hardliner Sharron Angle.

Democrats retained control of the Legislature, despite losing two Assembly seats and one Senate seat.
