A group of some 20 lobbyists have formed the Kansas Business Coalition to consider several legislative proposals that would reduce state spending on public and higher education.
Proposals include a review of higher education endowment funds, prohibiting school districts from lobbying the Legislature for more education funding, and reducing allocations for education from the state general fund.
The 2009 Legislature reduced state payments to local districts by almost $140 million in fiscal 2010 by lowering the state’s base aid per pupil to $4,218 from $4,433, a cut of almost 5%.
