"At the end of the day, this is a relationship business," Julius Rees says.
Whether working with bankers, issuers, attorneys, rating agency analysts or others, Julius is committed to building relationships rooted in trust across disciplines, geographies and perspectives, with the goal of helping clients achieve the best possible outcomes.
Julius enjoys that public finance combines technical expertise, innovation and collaboration to create solutions for clients. "It's a niche community that delivers really impressive, tangible results," he says.
After graduating from Syracuse University, Julius interned at a blockchain technology company and quickly realized the tech sector wasn't where he wanted to build his future. Instead, he pivoted to asset management at PFM Asset Management, where he gained a strong foundation in the municipal market.
Eager to work closer to the transactions themselves, Julius relocated to San Francisco and joined Stifel as an investment banking analyst. The role deepened his transaction experience, but eventually he found himself missing his hometown of New York City.
In May 2025, he returned home to join Oppenheimer, where he now advises public finance clients across the Northeast.
Beyond serving clients, Julius is passionate about developing future talent. He plays a key role in training the firm's first- and second-year analysts and associates in Oppenheimer's New York public finance bullpen.
He also leads Oppenheimer's internship partnership with the Urban Leaders Fellowship, a program that provides high school students from underserved communities with professional experience and exposure to careers in finance.
"It's incredibly rewarding to mentor the next generation of bankers," Julius says.
Whether he's helping clients navigate complex financings or investing in the careers of future professionals, Julius believes success ultimately comes back to the same principle that drew him to public finance in the first place: building strong relationships that create lasting value for communities.
