Title: Senior Vice President - Investment Banker
Firm: Hilltop Securities Inc.
Age: 38
Jorge Delgado's career could have gone in many directions. After almost accepting a job at Lockheed Martin following grad school, he instead joined Hilltop Securities.
"It would have been a totally different path, but I didn't have any one role I was set on. I was open to anything that seemed interesting and Hilltop seemed interesting," says Jorge.
The El Paso, Texas, native is a senior vice president at Hilltop, having worked his way up from analyst. He has worked on over 500 transactions totaling over $7.5 billion in par value.
"I like seeing the progress in the communities I work with. I also like the relationships I have been able to build. I think I am growing into a position where clients and colleagues see me as a trusted resource and that's the long-term result of working so closely with these communities that we represent," says Jorge.
Jorge recently worked on a deal for a North Texas higher education institution.
The school faced growth challenges and obstacles to bond authorization but developed a strategy to be the primary workforce training provider for employees of two multibillion-dollar chip manufacturing facilities being built in the area. The institution needed bonds, which had to win voter approval, to fund construction.
"We had to bring the community in and walk them through the financial feasibility of the bonds," says Jorge. The $450 million bond campaign was successful and the institution has begun issuing bonds and constructing facilities.
Jorge is a role model and mentor for young professionals in the public finance industry. "We need to identify and work with young people who want to stay not just at our firm, but in the industry," says Jorge.
Jorge enjoys traveling with his wife and they are preparing to welcome their first child.
