Standard & Poor’s last week raised the Jones County School District’s underlying general obligation bond rating to A-plus from A-minus.
The outlook is stable and reflects the area’s expanding economic base and expectations that management will maintain balanced financial operations and sustain sound reserve levels, said a report by analyst Kate Choban.
The upgrade applies to $48 million of outstanding GOs and also reflects the district’s low debt burden coupled with limited future capital needs, Choban said.
The 702-square-mile school district is Mississippi’s eighth largest.
