WASHINGTON — Business inventories increased 0.4% in April to post their fourth consecutive monthly gain, while sales rose 0.6%, the Commerce Department reported Friday.

Inventories in March were revised upward to 0.7% from 0.4%. Economists expected inventories to rise 0.5% in April.
