WASHINGTON – The U.S. first quarter employment cost index rose 0.5% for overall compensation costs to civilian workers, the Labor Department reported Friday.
The index grew 1.8% for the 12-month period ending in June.
The 0.5% gain for the second quarter followed an unrevised 0.6% increase for the previous quarter. For the 12-month period ending in March, the index rose 1.7%.
The second-quarter gain fell in line with the 0.5% uptick predicted by economists, according to a median estimate from Thomson Reuters.
