Edina, Minnesota Schools Request Borrowing

CHICAGO - Edina, Minnesota voters will decide the school district's request for $125 million in borrowing authorization when they vote on May 5.

The Edina school board approved the measure Jan. 12. Proceeds of the borrowing would be spread across all of the district's schools.

The district would use $107 million to upgrade schools and finance a $31 million addition to the district's high school as ninth grade students will move into the school. A new multi-purpose center would also be built. The other $17 million would finance safety and security upgrades.

The referendum marks the district's first request for a tax increase in more than a decade.
