The Milwaukee County Board last week overrode many of County Executive Chris Abele’s vetoes in the $1.2 billion 2012 budget.
The action will result in a 2.15% property tax levy increase, generating $5.8 million. Abele wanted to hold the levy steady at $270 million.
The budget relies on savings from higher employee health care and pension contributions, allowed under statewide reforms pushed through the Wisconsin legislature by Gov. Scott Walker, a former Milwaukee County executive.
