Ben Tobias, a senior associate at Squire Patton Boggs, has emerged as a standout leader, distinguished by his specialization in complex airport and water financings. A homegrown talent at Squire, Tobias joined the firm directly from Georgetown University Law Center.
"I was drawn to Squire's public finance group because I saw how those lawyers could point to what they've built — the actual infrastructure in their cities," says Ben. "I had a public interest mindset during law school. I found my niche and I've grown to enjoy it more each year."
Ben has become a go-to contact for clients, focusing his practice on large-scale transportation infrastructure and essential utility systems. He serves clients in multiple roles, including bond counsel, disclosure counsel and underwriter's counsel.
Ben has played a significant role in financings for many of the nation's largest and most complex airport systems, including as bond counsel and disclosure counsel to the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority for more than six years and over $3.4 billion in bond issuance. He also served as co-bond counsel to the New York Transportation Development Corp. in connection with both the $1.3 billion Terminal 4 financing and the $4 billion Terminal 6 project at John F. Kennedy International Airport.
"I'm proud of the work I do because our clients are delivering essential public goods," Ben says. Ben has been co-bond counsel and co-disclosure counsel to D.C. Water for over six years and worked on financings for the Clean Rivers Project, a multi-decade capital improvement plan to reduce combined sewer overflows into D.C.'s waterways.
When Ben is not working, you can frequently find him with his wife and their two young sons at the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden, the Cincinnati Museum Center or a Reds game.
